A failure of gun control

The attempt to emotionally bludgeon Americans into supporting gun control on the purported bodies of little kids has not only failed, but backfired entirely:
Police said the Connecticut town — where 26 students and six staffers were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School during gunman Adam Lanza's massacre — has already had 211 permit requests this year, a number far above the 171 requested in 2012 and the 99 in 2011.

There has been a run on guns in the Connecticut town where a madman armed with a Bushmaster assault rifle turned a grade school into a slaughterhouse.

Requests for gun permits are on track to double this year over last year in heartbroken Newtown, where 20 first-graders and six staffers were massacred at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Dec. 14, police said.
How deliciously ironic indeed. It should be eminently clear that absolutely nothing is going to convince Americans to disarm, not at a time where violent feral vibrants roam city streets in packs, Hispanic gangs are ethnically cleansing entire cities one neighborhood at a time, the police are militarized, and agents from the Department of Education and the Internal Revenue Service are armed better than the average third-world army.

Granted, the average American has given his government a plethora of reasons to believe he is stupid, but Americans are not completely devoid of an instinct for self-preservation.

Yeah, no kidding. Don't forget the Toyota War where Chad kicked Libya's ass and took back the Aouzou Strip using modified Toyota pickup trucks called technicals. "Are you sure some of these are not made of Styrofoam?"

Chad Military Parade

That's the Chadian president Idriss Déby at 0:38 and 1:21 in the blue tie, of the Bidyat clan of the Zaghawa ethnic group. That is apparently important for some reason, since they only make up a small portion of Chad that is home to some 200 ethnic groups.

Those are some sad, sad, sad, airplanes they show. "Open your mouth Libya! Here comes the airplane rhooooo-ZOOOOM! Good boy! Here it comes again!"

"Liberals" today better defined as totalitarians are like fire ants. They crawl up your pants and don't sting until one gives off the signal and they all sting together.

Then you rip off your pants and get rid of them. After which you get out the poison and eliminate the whole bed. I am not suggesting physically eliminating anyone but we must eliminate the ideology with the truth and boil the bastards alive.

Like a bad movie, they "can't handle the truth."

Outlaw X..."I am not suggesting physically eliminating anyone but we must eliminate the ideology with the truth and boil the bastards alive."

I really do not know where people ever got the idea that survival was about one side or the other being convinced to change their mind. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THEIR MIND. They want to prevail. If that means subjegating you to their way of thinking....not a problem. Failing that.....they are not hesitant to make this a contest to the bitter end....your life or theirs. Either way, they expect to win and they believe they are on the "right side of history". I believe they will fail, but I do not expect it to be friendly, or polite, or peaceful, or safe.

A woman I know in Memphis told me today, she was confronted yesterday by a group of 5 or 6 black teenaged male punks. She was in the Kroger parking lot during daylight hours and when she walked by, they spat on the pavement in front of her and gave her their best angry face. Nothing was said, she just looked them in the eyes as she walked by. Seems a good number of these punks have a big chip on their shoulder, daring anyone to knock it off. You and I know, there are plenty who would be glad to knock their chip off. Not quite there, folks, but it is close....close enough to smell.

They've got the guns - now all they need is the will to use them rather than meekly hand them in or bury them when the government inevitably says "gimmie". All those packs of "youths" and "young people" and "teenagers" are ripe for being deputized when the time comes to go door to door and collect. And they'll have official Obama issued federal badges and sheet so it be all legal and sheet and 'disrespectin' any of them gets yo' shot all legal like. Not that I'm a pessimist.

Newtowner here. Newtown has a well established gun and hunting culture. It has been the SWPL crowd that has been priced out of NYC and Westchester County that have come here to bring their liberal stupidity.

To add further fuel to the ironic fire, there was recently a home invasion in Sandy Hook.

Golly! I hope it didn't take the Newtown police twenty minutes to pull up their big boy pants and show up on the scene like they did at the school shooting.

Since it took them 20 minutes to respond to one shooter at the school, it might take them an hour to respond to three home invaders.

VD, what does banning so-called "assault rifles" have to do with pistols? Are you under some sort of delusion as to what was actually proposed for legislation?

OpenID rufusdog August 16, 2013 9:05 AM

You are overstating the significance of these permits. The number of permit holders in the USA is tiny compared to the general population; of permit holders the percentage of them that actually carry on a daily basis is small. I know lots of permit holders, most of them don’t carry.

I want to believe what you are saying It should be eminently clear that absolutely nothing is going to convince Americans to disarm, but it is simply not true. As America continues its leftward drunken stumble you will see more and more gun laws. Do you really think normal American’s won’t disarm if gun possession is made a felony and serious jail time is a consequence? They will.

I suppose this is one of the reasons I welcome the economic collapse people are forecasting. Collapse is probably our best hope for long term sustainment of individual freedom. I shudder to think about what the liberals will have accomplished in the next 20-30 years the way things are moving now.

You are badly deluded. The ability to ban specific guns has been on the books since the 1930's and is well established Court precedent. This is why you can't buy fully automatic weapons - they are banned. And why you have to have special permits to buy sound suppression equipment.

I would recommend you learn about actual gun-control laws. There are essentially only 3 on the Federal level. You can read all the law, and the case law, in about a leisurely afternoon.

"It sets the precedent that the government can ban specific arms. The power to ban one rapidly becomes the power to ban all."

I am not sure that's the only reason to fight bans on specific types of arms.

How about this one? An "assault rifle" is no more or less than any standard hunting rifles, which are not subject to a ban. They are just "dressed up" versions of the same functional unit.

Or? Previous rulings on the 2nd Amendment include that "commonly owned and used arms" would be included in the category of arms covered by the 2nd Amendment.

I am sure there are more.

Just because it is on the books doesn't mean it is right, or optimal. Social Security has been on the books since the 1930's, and it is an unsound ponzi scheme and an unconstitutional piece of Leftist idiocy.

This is how Leftism creeps into everything. It makes a law or a rule, something that sounds quite reasonable at the time. Let's just ban this one bad thing, or put a small tax on this other thing. Then it is established, and the Left goes for the next small thing. Death by a thousand cuts over a hundred years or so. Pretty soon you can't plant a tree in your own yard without a permit, or defend yourself from a violent aggressor.

Remember looking at all the photos from all the genocides from the 20th century? Remember seeing all of those bodies stacked on top of one another? Remember seeing those bodies clutching their rifles, handguns, and shotguns? Oh wait, the one thing that all genocides have in common is a disarmed group of victims.

What do 100,000 Rwandans, 1.5 million Armenians, 6 million+ European Jews, somewhere between 2-8 million Ukrainians, 1-3 million Cambodians (the list goes on and on, to the tune of at least 120 million I'm sad to say...) all have in common?

They all have different skin colors. They all have different ethnicities. They all have different religions. They all live in different geographical locations. They all live in locations with different weather patterns. They all speak different languages... They seemingly have nothing in common except being dead in large numbers...

The one thing they all have in common: They were all disarmed before being slaughtered.

"Genocide: Worse than War"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7cZuhqSzzc

I *&^%ing hate that documentary. Not only for its terrible subject matter, but because the narrator never really connects the dots about all these victims of genocide being diarmed. The narrator go around studying genocide, even going so far as to interview people who committed genocide, especially one who hacked innocent people to pieces in Rwanda...

Not once does he ask the scum: "If your victim had turned around and pointed a 12-gauge shotgun in your face, would you have thought yourself very stupid for bringing a machete to a gun fight?" or "If one person with a .308 caliber rifle started shooting everyone holding a machete, how quickly would you have dropped your machete and stopped hacking people to death?" or even "What would you have done if you knew your victim had a simple 38 special revolver under their shirt, ready to use?"

The narrator tries to reason with genocide, thinking if they can understand why it happened, they can stop it from happening in the future. You can't reason with evil. You can throw every reasonable, and logical argument at evil you can even actually win the argument from an outsider's perspective with evil, but in the end it does not matter. Evil is evil.

It is a sin to let another person kill you because of their hatred of you.

If the 20th century has taught me anything it is this: "Never give up your guns." And I personally won't.

Yep, you have to go through some hoops similar to getting a CHL, but it is possible to legally purchase and possess a machine gun manufactured or imported before 1986 IIRC. And in many states as long as you have met all these requirements, you can keep one loaded in your vehicle or home.

Unless something recent happened I'm not aware of, there is only recorded crime committed with one of these legally owned weapons in the last 60 years or so. AFIAK even illegally owned fully automatic weapons have not been involved in much crime in the US either, demonstrating any impetus to further control or ban them would be based on emotional, irrational fear of imagined peril rather than any real danger. Criminals and crazies don't seem to be very motivated to acquire and use them.

It's a little more involved (and takes considerably longer) than getting a CCW (for most states, anyway). Fingerprint card, passport photo, background check, $200 tax stamp, sign-off by the chief law enforcement where you live (Chief of Popo or Sheriff, depending) and literally months of waiting, but it can be done.

You can also establish a legal trust to actually own the item, circumventing the need for LE sign-off, fingerprints and pics. - useful if your local won't deign to give you permission. Ultimately, your weapon is registered on an ATF Form 3 (5320.3) as are silencers/suppressors.

Anonymous FP August 16, 2013 12:42 PM

"VD, what does banning so-called "assault rifles" have to do with pistols? Are you under some sort of delusion as to what was actually proposed for legislation?"

You're funny dh and you might want to read up on whats been happening the past 8 months. In Oregon earlier this year, the gun banners here submitted a bill to the state house that would ban everything that could hold over 10 rounds, including .22 rifles and lever actions. The bill also only allowed each person one "assault rifle" and it had to be registered along with each of its magazines over 10 rounds. Yearly inspections by the state police were to be required. The law was only 4 pages long and it effectively made your standard glock 9mm/40 pistol an "assault weapon". My shotgun, a pocket pistol and a .22 pistol would be "legal". A majority of my .22 rifles and a pistol would be assault rifles by law or questionably so (rifles and a pistol that have 10 round mags available but also 12-30 rounders).

In New York, they lowered the 10 round limit they've had for years to 7 rounds. Its a creeping goal to ban guns completely. They've failed at the fed level for now, so they've gone to the states. See Colorado where politicians recommend women piss themselves to scare off attackers.

As for your three fed laws... the CGA of 68 created the FFL dealer system and gave the ATF more power. You're forgetting the Brady Bill for background checks or the 86 law that limited machine guns for "civilians" to only those made before 1986. Thats four big fed laws, five if you included the now sunset 1994 assault weapons bill.

Anonymous toothy August 16, 2013 12:51 PM

And dh, I don't know if you consider ATF "regulations" that can get you sent to prison actual "laws", but if you do, there is a shitload more than 4 of them...

It’s even sillier when you consider Vox’s view of the government. If our all-powerful government can pull off Sandy Hook, 9-11, and all the other conspiracy theories out there, they sure as shit can handle the tiny (and I mean TINY) percentage of the population that would be willing to fight and die over gun rights.

Well, in CT, the recent legislation on assault rifles and firearms generally has worked as an effective ban on all sorts of weapons, including pistols. There is a huge bureaucratic backlog of permit requests that the police are doing little to approve and reduce.

Sure, if they can identify and find all of them "in very short order". The problem is you don't know who they are until someone or something motivates them to reveal themselves. Rufus, you are assuming that the government can maintain control of the narrative and that more people won't wake up when they realize they truly have nothing left to lose.

Modern society is rather fragile. It doesn't take many people to take down a power grid or two or three.

Anonymous Titus Didius Tacitus August 16, 2013 2:43 PM

Susan, it's good that you are seeking an understanding of the (white) male view on this. White boys don't appreciate girls seeing them as "weak" and non-whites as "strong" within a rigged competition where the non-whites are behaving as cowards by white standards.

Read this (“Everything You Have Learned in School is Wrong”), and this (Muslims dominate the natives on the streets of Norway).

With blacks, the process is more brutal, but the game is the same, and the predicament of white boys with no social support being confronted by non-white mobs and tribes is also the same.

Whites are highly individualistic compare to the rest of the world. In society versus society competition, this can make them effective, by leading to fair competition, allowing talent to come to the fore, reducing corruption and nepotism, and generally leading to better, fairer, more trusting, more creative societies - that can also be more militarily effective, as the age of (white) empires shows.

However within a society, collectivism is highly dominant against individualism. Each white boy stands utterly alone, like a stag brought down by a harrying wolf-pack.

Whites may think that the brown mob is cowardly, but the non-whites just think: "Get that [cracka / kufar / whatever]!" Losers don't get to set the rules, and multiculturalism makes white boys losers.
