So, the gay thing backfired

They'll just have to cry raciss instead:
"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson made headlines this week for his anti-gay sentiments in a GQ interview. Now another statement from the interview -- this time about the black community during the pre-civil rights era -- is stirring more controversy.

GQ's Drew Magary sat down with the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch for a candid interview about his road to fame. The 67-year-old journeyed from substance abuse to devotion to God to small-screen celebrity, all in the backwoods of Louisiana. According to Robertson, growing up in those Louisiana backwoods in the pre-civil rights era was not bad for black people.

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
Presumably the next accusations will be:
  1. anti-semitism
  2. anti-science
  3. evolution denier
  4. not a true Christian
Oh, wait, they already tried number four, didn't they. I think this episode is actually a potentially positive one for American society, as it is making two things abundantly clear. First, give them an inch and they will not only take a mile, but will insult you in the process. Second, there is absolutely no reasoning with these people. They are an implacable enemy and no quarter should be shown to them even when they wave the white flag and start talking about negotiating a settled peace.

As Churchill once said of the Hun, he is either at your feet or at your throat. We can't leave them alone because they won't leave us alone. We can't tolerate them because they will not tolerate us. So, root them out of your lives, stop supporting them, stop enabling them, and stop funding their assault on your beliefs, your family, and your faith. There are no fences upon which moderates can safely sit in a cultural war.

One of the few voices of reason on the Left grasps this and laments the totalitarianism of her own side. Camille Paglia writes:
“To express yourself in a magazine in an interview — this is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, OK, that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic Party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades,” Paglia said. “This is the whole legacy of free speech 1960’s that have been lost by my own party.

“I think that this intolerance by gay activists toward the full spectrum of human beliefs is a sign of immaturity, juvenility,” Paglia said. “This is not the mark of a true intellectual life. This is why there is no cultural life now in the U.S. Why nothing is of interest coming from the major media in terms of cultural criticism. Why the graduates of the Ivy League with their A, A, A+ grades are complete cultural illiterates, etc. is because they are not being educated in any way to give respect to opposing view points.”
One cannot reason with totalitarians. One can only refuse to submit to them. And sooner or later, one must fight them.

UPDATE: The Robertson family stands fast:

"We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm.  We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.   Again, thank you for your continued support of our family."

There's a simile in the Australian Aborigine communities pre- equality. When missionaries raised poor or parent-less blacks - children were educated clothed fed.
Equality has brought alcoholism, squalor, pornography, unemployment, sexual abuse, petrol sniffing, delinquency.

This is a blog so I've oversimplified the case - but the bare bones of it is exactly what has happened.

Tokenism, seeming to care, lipservice, has been a disaster/ a deadly disaster.

Equality, is all knees bent at the cross of Calvary.

The publicity will net everyone millions. Who woulda thunk lack of ethics would be so profitable.

Anonymous MrGreenMan December 20, 2013 9:46 AM

I've seen in a much shorter life than Phil the polarization and the teaching of resentment that is the fruit of "community organizing" - the Left engaged in a plan of teaching them to hate. It's a program to combat the unifying effects of the Gospel.

I remember growing up right outside a 60% black city that was well past its prime; never once did I feel racial animus from the black population. When the churches met, everybody was equal in brotherhood, although the blacks preferred to go to their own AME churches, which was their prerogative and we were happy to see them active in the community doing the Lord's work just the same as the Catholics and the Presbyterians and the Methodists.

I had more experience later in life with the great black metropolis of Detroit. Every time I encountered a black person there, their default go-to approach was animus, and you could feel palpable hatred. It is very hard to get through to those people - sometimes you could get through, but mostly, they wanted whitey to get back to Oakland County and out of their city. And, of course, the churches of Detroit are really in trouble - it does not help that the Nation of Islam sits on the city with black separatism; there's been far more effective evangelism and growth of Spanish-language churches than reaching the black population.

Going home, I saw that the Detroit political consultants had rolled up and entered the mayoral election. What do you now? Reading the dying dead paper rag, here's Detroit-style racial politics poisoning the local stream, and a dead city that's still about 60% black and 40% white is saying - get you, whitey, out to the suburbs.

It's hilarious that they want to say lived experiences are racist; La Paglia is right - and it's not just rejecting the idea of contrary opinions; they want to deny facts they don't agree with.

His total disconnect from reality would be the attraction of the "reality" show?

Blogger swiftfoxmark2 December 20, 2013 9:47 AM

And what Phil said about blacks isn't racist either. Anyone with half a brain would know that.

But because he said "black", which in modern times is the new term for "niggar", that makes him a racist.

That is why we kicked cable/sat to the curb long ago. Even if it was only a few cents per channel per month in revenues, I did not want my pinch of incense going to those strong supporters of the sodomite community.

Yet it's no longer enough to just withdraw consent Now is the time to fly the black flag against these uncircumcised Philistines. If we do not destroy them financially, intelecutally, and culturally, it will lead to anarchy and the complete loss of freedom. They have come after our faith and our families, so they should recieve no quarter. The black flag is the only thing they will understand. So many have sat out for so long that it's going to be up close and personal now. Artillery will be of little use. Fix bayonet. Those rednecks West Monroe may be the tip of that bayonet.

We also ditched cable and TV years ago. The real answer of course is to vote with your dollars and stop supporting the large corporations as much as possible. Don't buy Proctor and Gamble soap, buy local hand made soap. Don't buy from the grocery store chains, shop the Farmer's Market or grow your own if possible. There are many things we could do, but I understand they are difficult.

Oh, and I agree that it is high time to fly the black flag and go on the offensive. Stomp these people into the ground intellectually. Humiliate them in public. After all, that's precisely what Jesus did. He made a spectacle of them. There's the famous verse too where they finally learned their lesson: "After that, they dared not question him anymore." As Vox has repeatedly said, you're probably not going to win the person you're arguing against so stop trying to have compassion on them. They are the enemy! Crush them. The fact that you crush and humiliate them might wake the other observers out of their indoctrinated stupor long enough to start looking at the truth.

I love this show and Phil has a lot of wisdom, I especially liked when he took his grandson and his grandson's new girlfriend; that was the best, he tells his grandson something to the effect, "Keep your hand above the shoulder until you have signed on the dotted line."
Either way, it is time to hoist the colors (not the rainbow colors)
As Christians, we need to pray and ask God to give us wisdom. God has not given us a spirit of fear, so when that wisdom comes; use it.
Speak it, speak it, speak it. Whatever opportunity you are given, as a Christian, the truth must be spoken.
We cannot let sayings become doctrine that hold us back ( too many to list). We cannot let the enemy define who we are.

It's obvious that the A&E producers intended the show to be yet another vehicle for ridiculing southern whites. But somewhere along the way, that plan suffered a holocaust. The audience began to respect and relate to the rednecks whom they were supposed to scorn. And that won't do at all. Cash is one thing; The Agenda is quite another.

And since A&E's pieces of silver are worth far less than their family and faith, it would be quite heartening to see the family fire the network. Perhaps some network wag will mention the "vile bigotry" of tikkun olam.

Phil Robertson’s desire is to see all men and women repent—that is to turn from their sin and follow Christ in obedience. Indeed, that’s his own story, as he freely shares. This is my desire too.

We live in a culture that openly supports and promotes sin against God. While Phil Robertson is not anyone’s judge, God is, and will judge all sin. Jesus Christ came to this earth to save sinners, which includes me.

I have appreciated the Robertson family’s commitment to biblical values, and that they have not backed down in a politically-correct world that is tolerant of everything except biblical standards and values. I pray that we would be a nation where we can disagree civilly while holding firm convictions. I support my friend Phil Robertson.

Vox is right that the mainstream media keep mum on the persecution of Christians in Syria (and elsewhere). The reality is actually worse than that: it's the US-backed forces (usually Islamic militants) that are doing the persecuting, whether in Syria, Iraq (against the Chaldeans) or Kosovo (against the Serbs). But since those Christians are all Eastern, so the Catholics and Evangelicals don't consider them "real."
I remember reading of Evangelical missionaries going to "bring the Church" to Decani (occupied Kosovo) - where a Serbian king had built a monumental monastery a century prior to America's discovery by Europeans. Or American Evangelicals sending "Christmas gifts" to Kosovo - not realizing they are sending them to the Muslim ethnic Albanians, who have driven out the Christian Serbs with US backing.
Stuff like that.

Because the one thing that the American Christian worships more than God is the American military.

This, but I'd also add that too many American Christians (the protestants mostly in my experience) wrongly think the Abrahamic Covenant applies to the secular nation-state known as "Israel."

Our foreign policy is run my people who seem to think if they don't do Israel's bidding that the second coming can't happen and they'll bring the curses of the Abrahamic Covenant down on America.

The end result is endless interventions that lead to the destruction of Christian communities in the middle east.

That's kind of the problem: we have become numb to it, so we don't even notice how bad it is. We're so good at turning the other cheek that we've forgotten about the "coming with a sword" part. We've had it pretty good, living in the safest, most pleasant part of the best country in the world (yes, many people here still honestly think that), away from the crime and strife that we see on the TV. Basically, we've been able to afford to be nice, continuing to feed and subsidize people who hate us -- both the mobs and their ivory-tower enablers -- and telling ourselves they just don't know any better.

I don't think that will change until we really can't afford to be nice anymore.

Vox is right about the Muslim persecution of Catholics/Christians that our military escapades are encouraging. I wouldn't know about it except for my parish priest and a couple blogs like this one, and my parish priest is a serious traditionalist who also happens to be European, so he tends to be aware of things outside the American consciousness. Most American Catholics don't even know there are long-standing Catholic churches in those countries, let alone that they're in danger of being wiped out. Jobs are the key people with jobs do not feel the resentment as much. People who can take some pride in their work regardless of the job have no time for resentments and causing trouble.

I am not sure if TPTB saw the end game 50 years ago when they started this mess but they have no excuse now.

Pathologies of all kinds are grown like disease in a petrie dish. Hate, discontent, resentment, sexual immorality, the break up of families, loss of desire for purpose, all of these are here and now.

It's almost as if TPTB want to destroy America.

Leftists live for government, its what they do. It what they have to do. A parasite has to get busy draining the host. Thus why the left seemingly dominates politics. Conservatives by nature therefore are not as engaged in politics especially the DC variety.

Rod Dreher--who's even whiter than me--is horrified over Phil's remarks.

Yeah, I don't get that. He gets his panties in a wad about race. I wonder if it's because he doesn't want his friends at NRO and the NYT to think he's an evil bad racist.

Phil's comments on race aren't anything new. A lot of us whose family originate from the poor, rural south can attest to this. My father's experience mirrored Phil's growing up in North & SC. The schools were integrated long before the city schools. He used to tell me that it was the bigger towns and cities that were an issue for blacks in general. But let's not allow the only approved viewpoint broadcasting from Hollywood on race relations in the South get in the way of any truth.

If you've seen Phil's "I Am Second" video then you probably know some of what I'm sharing.

Phil spend years living for the enemy and he basically is now living as an example of being obedient to Christ and His teachings.

I heard this a few years ago and I think it fits here.

"Religious people are trying to keep from going to hell, spiritual people have been there and don't want to go back." Author Unknown

Phil can discern what's being promoted by the evil one and what is of God. He's lived both and chose freedom instead of bondage.

Blogger RobertT December 20, 2013 12:33 PM

We have been cowed into thinking we're the minority, and we're not. Besides it doesn't matter. We'll never win the battle for public opinion if we don't make it clear where we stand. There are thousands of people out there who think they're the only one. The only way they'll ever learn otherwise is if we tell make it clear.

I once gave a public speech to about 500 people, covered by the media, in which I criticized the (completely public) personal life of a rising politician who who was increasingly important in my state. The next day the local newspaper printed an editorial about me and referred to me as the next coming of Cotton Mather. That was not a pleasant experience, probably stupid, but you would not believe the people who stopped me on the street and told me they agreed with we. It also killed that person's political career.

I may have a reputation for doing that kind of thing, and that may make it easier for me to speak my mind, but anyone can do this kind of stuff. And more people should. Phil is just a backwoods hick speaking truth to unbelievers, and it infuriates them.

For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. Hebrews 10: 37-39

Boldness, endurance and faith. The world cannot stand a bold and faithful Christian. They will fall over themselves to tear him/her down. But what joy we have when they attempt to do so.

Its a interesting position --- being against homosexuality is a fairly mainstream Christianity -- so if what GLAAD is saying is true about Phil R, then Christians are all bigots -- 2.1 Christian billion bigots.

Its one thing to prevent discrimination, but its quite another to then force this new least common denominator of morality on the rest of us and if we wont fall in line we are called bigots, racists etc ...

On a side not .. I love the show but I don't really know why .. there are quite a bit of these southern "white trash" shows -- it almost feels like these shows were originally meant to poke fun at these people and something else happened.. stereotypes were broken and the real gold nuggets were found ... good people where discovered and the entertainment elites don't know what to do about it...

I just hope that Palin and rest of the political opportunists stay the hell away... .. too late I guess for that.

All people who consider themselves followers of Christ should follow all His teachings—and that includes showing mercy, compassion, and kindness to all of God’s creation, human and nonhuman alike. What’s ‘sinful’ is hating people and animals. PETA asks everyone who consider themselves to be Christian to reject hate speech and call for this show’s cancellation.”

Kill and eat.”

14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

VD: I think this episode is actually a potentially positive one for American society, as it is making two things abundantly clear. First, give them an inch and they will not only take a mile, but will insult you in the process. Second, there is absolutely no reasoning with these people

Another thing that has become abundantly clear is that their only weapon is to try to cite a person's creed against them. This works only as long as they get an audience, and they only get an audience if the audience believes they are working behind a smokescreen of "we believe in [your creed] too", but the smokescreen is increasingly thinning out, and it is becoming increasingly obvious that they are creedless narcissists simply trying to leverage power. Thus, their audience is getting smaller, and smaller, and smaller. The comments on yahoo accompanying this article, even from blacks, atheists, gays, etc., range from "So what?" to "Why can't he believe what he wants to believe?" I admit I read about 250 of the 25000 comments, but every one of them roughly fell into this range.

Most definitely. Having no creed and no standards of their own, they can only appeal to the standards of their targets for ammunition and validation.

That is plenty to set the sick into hysteria.

We have a patriarchy-family. The man is the gracious, loving, providential, protective and operating in complete reality, The leader of his helm. It is appalling that thee family leader is insulted. If this is all real, in a fake post american culture, then the family did the best thing; stand with family no matter the consequences.

The family can use youtube unless that too is banned in some false solidarity to what amounts to a henhouse issue. The family is Christian and maintains firm on certain issues, in a world of mixed messages and irrational trouble makers, many believe this story to be real.

While I failed to watch the show, the previews or commercials and the merch in stores is harmless, not negative. The family is harmless in a culture that does not reflect honor or holiness. Or maybe the populace of the states does wish to be healthy, happy, free, honorable, etc.

Who among Robertson’s critics have faced demons like he has faced? Who among those critics has conquered them? Who, having made a fortune and become a household name, would give of his or her time to help a soul suffering as he once did?

FWIW, Ace of Spades has a link to a post that says, basically, A&E thought the show would be about mocking a "dumb, nouveau riche" redneck family ala Honey Boo Boo, and was horrified but willing to overlook for a while because of the money, the genuine popularity of the show and people watching it. The show was Cable's #1 reality show.

Meanwhile, quietly, History Channel might as well be the Vegas Blue Collar network, with Vegas set shows featuring Blue Collar guys (with money) doing interesting things. Buying and selling stuff at a pawn shop, restoring cars, restoring antiques, etc. Filled with tattoos, conflicts over money, and love of objects. A slap in the face to the SWPL set. But it makes money.

If the Robertsons are smart, they'll walk away from A&E and offer their own show, streamed, free, with some deal made with advertisers like the South Park guys.

Always, ALWAYS keep the rights to the character names and titles to your shows. If you pick the character names (e.g. Howdy-Doody, Captain Kangaroo, Buffalo Bob, Duck Dynasty, etc.) register them as your trademark for the provision of services and merchandise.

Then, when the show becomes a hit and the bad guys want to start making money off your names, characters, clothes, etc. you own the rights, not the bad guys. THEY have to license the rights from YOU --- or rather, the merchandizers come straight to you to get a license.

If the Robertson's owned the trademark "Duck Dynasty" it is the TV production company that would be sweating bullets. Why? Because the Robertsons could take the name and continue on as "Duck Dynasty" and (worse yet) stop A&E from pimping goods marked with "Duck Dynasty". They could go to another production company and make their own show called "Duck Dynasty" on another network.

Elvis owned his name. Liberace owned his name. Sinatra owned his name. Make sure you own yours! Also, own the name of any newsletter you create. Own the name of any website you create. If there is any chance that a character/persona/voice/lifestyle/publication that you develop will turn into a cash flow or you will have a falling out with the corporate types, OWN THE NAMES!!!

There is some ignorance based bigotry toward more ethnically colored Christians in the east.......one of my distant relatives encyclopedia of religions lists Eastern Orthodox Christians as " a jewish religious cult that worships Jesus as God". As an EOC I find this amusingly accurate......... yet clueless....... at the same time........

"A Jewish religious cult that worships Jesus as God?"

Isn't that what we call Christianity?

I can't say I've ever watched Duck Dynasty, but from the sounds of things Phil sounds like a good bloke (high praise in New Zealand). It also doesn't sound like he cares much about whether or not A&E like what he has to say. They needed him more than he needs them.

The problem with people who claim that tolerance is a virtue (or more specifically the only virtue) is that it works against them more often than not. "You say that I should tolerate your views that I find immoral and offensive, but that my views which you find immoral and offensive should not be tolerated? Hypocrite."

Now tolerance (up to a point) makes it possible to live in peace, provided everybody does it. However, like pacifism, taken too far it leads to a place where nothing is seen as worth standing up for.

They still own Duck Commander, so they could simply licence that to, say, Fox. EVERYBODY would know what the show is.

Fecking stupid people, Freedom of Speech is NOT A right, it is a privilege we leave to each other that the GOVERNMENT CANNOT ABRIDGE. Private parties may abridge free speech any time they want. The Constitution ONLY controls the government or is supposed to ONLY control the government. The Constitution does not apply to personal or business interactions and the government has no authority to make laws claiming it does.

Yes, BillB, which is exactly why a Christian baker shouldn't be forced to make a cake for a gay wedding and why a Christian photographer shouldn't have to take pictures of homosexuals getting married.

Oh, wait....

Have you read the -Christian- response to Phil that isn't positive? Some of this is truly bizarre. He claims the comments about sexual attraction to organs are "indefensible". In what universe?

You'd be surprised how slow people are about this. This was my first thought when I heard about Phil's being "let go". I believe that being incapable of seeing a clear parallel is a sign that someone either doesn't care or doesn't have the mental capacity to understand the law - either way, they shouldn't be in charge of deciding what a company can legally do.

Anonymous Big Bill December 20, 2013 4:10 PM

"We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family."

Uh-oh. That is straight lawyerese PR talk. The Robertsons have themselves a mouthpiece that is figuring all the angles. A&E and the production company are not going to like this one bit. Then again, if I reckon correctly, they want to keep making money and hope and pray the Robertsons can slap the sodomite lobby down hard so they can get back to the business of making money.

But the last goddam thing they want during this "hiatus" (read: "we'll pick you up again after this blows over") is for the Robertsons to get a good agent and lawyer and figure out how to sell their show to someone else BEFORE it all "blows over". That would be a HUGE income stream to lose. Those Hollywood boys are being worked over from both ends. They don't have he courage to stand up to the sodomite lobby, they figured that the weird hillbillies would roll over, give up Grampa Robertson and make nice, and now they are caught in the middle.

It looks like none of those Hollywood chumps had the slightest clue who they were dealing with. After producing dozens of episodes, listening to what the Robertsons were saying--day in and day out--hearing their words, they still couldn't see what was right in front of their eyes.

I can just hear our Hollywood friends: "The Ducks are just another bunch of gutless, greedy, immoral, unprincipled, lying goyischekopfen. They'll roll over in a heartbeat if we whack their Grampa and threaten to kill their cash flow."

In short, they thought the Robertsons were like all their friends and relatives in Hollywood. The utter provincialism of Hollywood is gobsmacking.

Somebody pass the popcorn. This is getting fun!

This whole thing reminds me of when ESPN put Rush Limbaugh on their pre-game show, then got their panties in a bunch when he actually said something sort of conservative. WTF did they expect? It's almost like they don't expect a conservative to actually believe any of that conservative stuff... Must all just be an act, right?

Anonymous Big Bill December 20, 2013 4:20 PM

This reminds me of the book written about Postville Iowa, which was taken over by ultra-Orthodox Jews. In the book the author recounts a story in which one of the rich Jewish women was racing through Postville in her Cadillac and got stopped by a Deputy for speeding. He came up to the car, she rolled down the window and tried to hand him $50.

The Iowa cop just looked at her in amazement.

I mean, who woulda thunk it? A sheigetz cop who wasn't willing to take a bribe? What are the odds of THAT happening? They are ALL on the take, aren't they?

The last thing Hollywood thought was that the Robertsons were not "on the take", that money wasn't their prime motivation in life, and that they would sacrifice their principles and religion for a few dollars more. It was not supposed to turn out like this.

You are right, sir. We Ilk need to brush up on the 1st amendment in the Bill of Privileges.

Phil has the right to say what he wants, A&E has the right to fire who they want, and, we have the right to say what we want about it.

No need to get your pocket constitution out. Nobody's rights were violated in this case. This is the way things are supposed to work. A&E didn't violate anyone's rights, they are just incredibly stupid.

I have never watched the show (am really thinking about getting into after all of this), but I find all of this fascinating. What I really wonder about, given the support that these folks are getting and given the way someone upthread said how the comments sections of articles are going, is how are the twitterpated (scalzified) people going to react to all of this? Their whole world view is dependent on popular belief. Once that starts flowing toward the opposite direction, they will have to change their minds. It will be interesting to watch.

They're all shocked and outraged that the magic words of "racist" and "bigot" have not made these horrible flyover people stop.

If you read the GQ article, being around the Robertsons made the author himself start to question the choices he'd made in live. That's the real threat. People might wake up and want something real.

In a way, the Robertsons are part of a Christian Project Mayhem. But instead of just blowing up buildings, they're modeling a different life.

Duck Dynasty; I admit that I wasn't the least bit interested in viewing it. I just assumed that it was just another vapid "reality show", teeming with insipid drama clowns.
A southern redneck version of that tattoo show or that show where the build ugly, unridable motorcycles and throw wrenches at each other.

I was apparently wrong about DD. I'll have to do some catching up.

Anonymous Red Comet December 20, 2013 6:03 PM

Those duck guys are independently wealthy from their business. They don't really need A&E unless they're addicted to fame...although they could conceivably move their show to the web like, say, Glenn Beck or Leo Laporte and still do well.

From the comments in the update I suspect they'll either walk or A&E will wait until after everyone is distracted by the holidays and New Year to quietly lift the ban and keep going, pretending none of this ever happened.

Leftists have used the short attention span news cycle to drive past a lot of legitimate scandals so I'll get a laugh when the various activists out there find that no one has time for their complaints a month from now when whatever is the new big news replaces this scenario.

I called my local Cracker Barrel and asked if they had pulled Duck Commander merchandise. Lady answering the phone said "No" and seemed genuinely surprised when I asked. She also said that she thought it would be a bad idea if they did that. To top it off, she wished me "Merry Christmas!" Don't hear that too often.

So possibly a knee-jerk reaction on the part of some, but not all, Cracker Barrel management.

Apparently not the whole story:

"Cracker Barrel’s mission is Pleasing People. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture.

We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores.

We removed selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests while we evaluate the situation.

We continually evaluate the products we offer and will continue to do so."

There are no fences upon which moderates can safely sit in a cultural war."

Well, Vox, you just stole the thunder of one of my own upcoming columns. That, right down to the Churchill quote, was exactly what I was going to say. Great minds think alike - or even ours.

This is something that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. Nobody should feel any obligation to "be reasonable" with the left. Being reasonable with people who will do nothing but use it as an opening to destroy you is just being a sucker. I see noplace where the Bible, or any other book worth listening to, requires me to be a sucker.

This is particularly important for everyone to apply to their families.

How can someone teach their children that homosexuality is destructive if they allow an openly homosexual family member to visit their home and spend time with their children at family gatherings? He has become a potential role model. Homosexuals view "coming out" in the same way that Christians view evangelism. Parents need to forget about "peace in the family" and protect their children.

Cracker Barrel actually knew who there customers were before they got so big and corporate and hired top 10 biz school 'professional administrators' to run their growing corporate bureaucracy. Their customers are Duck Dynasty's core viewers and part of the Country Class. They have no idea the backlash that's coming and the massive reduction in sales from even the rumor that Cracker Barrel has sided with the Godless decadent Ruling Class. All the employees and management of the local stores know, but the corporate officers and board members are mostly of the Ruling Class and don't want to be left off the fancy party lists.
