Fake news at the Washington Post

I'm sure we all look forward to Facebook banning links to the Washington Post due to the fact that it is a confirmed provider of fake news:
The Washington Post has retracted its story about Russian hackers penetrating the nation’s electricity grid with a virus found in a Burlington, Vt., electric company laptop.

“Authorities say there is no indication of that so far [that Russians had penetrated the US electric grid],” according to an editor’s note attached to a corrected version of the story on the paper’s Web site. “The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid,” the editor’s note read.

News of the supposed hack had set off a firestorm of recriminations, with Vermont leaders calling Russian President Vladimir Putin “a thug” earlier Saturday, after one of the state’s electric utilities found a virus on a laptop computer. A utility spokesman has also told the Burlington Free Press the laptop was not hooked into the grid.
The amusing thing about the whole SJW "fake news" strategy is that even liberal observers predicted that it was going to be turned around and used against the mainstream media. This simply goes to show, once more, that a calm and strategic approach combined with ruthless tactical meme magic is an extremely effective approach to defeating the SJWs despite their possession of the cultural high ground.

On a related note, James Delingpole pens a savage declaration of war on the Liberal/Globalist/SJW/Media/Establishment Left at Breitbart London:
We will take the fight to the enemy, not cower in No Man’s Land

One of the best things about 2016 for me was the way it gave the lie to the weaselish and wet aphorism – so often repeated by so many of our impeccably reasonable, sensible and balanced TV and newspaper pundits  – that elections are “won in the centre ground.”

This was the Belial philosophy that gave us, in the U.S., that hideous continuum from the Bushes and the Clintons to Obama; and in Britain, the grotesque and malign Third Way squishery that took us from Tony Blair through to his (self-admitted heir) David Cameron and beyond. (It’s also the mindset which invented the disgraceful, sell-out concept of “soft Brexit”.)

No wonder so many of us had become so fed up with politics: no matter which party you voted for, whether the notionally left-wing one or the notionally right-wing one you still seemed to end up up with the same old vested interests, the same old liberal Establishment elite.

Of course we should always despise the liberal-left because their philosophy is morally bankrupt, dangerous and wrong. But I sometimes think that the people we should despise most of all are the squishes who pretend to be on our side of the argument but forever betray our cause. Sometimes they do this by throwing the more outspoken among us to the wolves in order to signal how tolerant and virtuous they are; sometimes they do this by endorsing some fatuous liberal position in order to show their willingness to compromise.

I call the latter approach the “dogshit yogurt fallacy.”

If conservatives like fruit or honey in their yogurt and liberals prefer to eat it with dogshit, it is NOT a sensible accommodation – much as our centrist conservative columnists might wish it so – to say: “All right. How about we eat our yogurt with a little bit of both?” We need to understand, very clearly, that there are such things as right and wrong; and that, furthermore, it is always worth fighting to the bitter end for the right thing rather than accepting second best because a bunch of lawyers and politicians and hairdressers from Brazil and squishy newspaper columnists and other members of the liberal elite have told us that second best is the best we can hope for.

On Brexit, for example, I’m with Her Majesty the Queen: “‘I don’t see why we can’t just get out? What’s the problem?’

We will never apologise, never explain, never surrender

See those scalped corpses, littering the plains? These are the guys – and it is, invariably, men – who thought that if only they showed contrition for their confected crimes the enemy would leave them alone. Sir Tim Hunt apologised, the guy from Saatchi apologised, the guy on the Rosetta space programme who wore the “sexist” shirt apologised. A fat lot of good it did them. The vengeful liberal-left doesn’t just want humiliation – it wants total annihilation.

Giving even an inch of ground to an enemy so implacable and vile is not only futile – but it also badly lets the side down by granting them a power that they do not deserve. The most recent sorry example of this was Steve Martin who actually deleted a tweet praising his late friend Carrie Fisher as a “beautiful creature” because a bunch of feminazis on Twitter complained that this was sexist objectification.

Look, I know it’s a scary thing when the SJW witch-hunt mob turns on you. But read Vox Day’s SJW Attack Survival Guide, follow the example of Nigel Farage and fight these people to the very last bullet (keeping the final round for yourself). Do not surrender!
We may or may not be outnumbered. The recent European referenda and the US presidential election suggest that we are not. We may not have the high ground. But we are never outgunned, intellectually or literally. Do not surrender, do not apologize, and do not hesitate to go on the attack, either directly or circumspectly, every single time you encounter an SJW anywhere.

The thing they seem to fear most is ridicule. They have no sense of humor when it comes to politics (this is why Rush is an eternal mystery to them) and they can't stand their ideas being laughed at. Turning their ideas against them and laughing at them seem to be our most effect strategies.

Nice article and a good plug. I am reading SJWAL now with KU. 2/3 of the way through it now, it's pattern you see play out over and over again in the media. Whenever I come across an SJW; you can tell by the way they respond to comments or the way they phrase things and quite often by there're job; I get an adrenaline rush increased heart rate, real fight or flight stuff. I take a few calming breaths and then engage. Could be immigration, Islam, Global Warming, whatever. If their calm I ask questions see what they know then deconstruct their Narrative and laugh at them. If they are aggressive then so am I.

It was utterly predictable the state-controlled propaganda outlets would come to regret the "fake news" meme. Their outright lies cannot withstand social/digital media's instant fact-checking. It may be past time to dignify fraudulent media with the appellation "mainstream." The WaPo and all major newspapers and the old broadcast stations have tiny readerships and viewer ratings and are echo chambers for small audiences. They are outliers now, and the left-wing relies more on popular culture than "news" to propagandize.

Blogger Johnny January 02, 2017 9:12 AM

I suspect the fake news that really counts comes from the TV. The thing is, this is the medium that reaches out to the disinterested, and that is the population that propaganda is best aimed at. As long as the stuff on TV reflects the stuff in the newspapers, the newspapers remain of considerable importance. Recall the tail that wags the dog; the paper of record, the New York Times.

Blogger James Dixon January 02, 2017 9:16 AM

I do find one thing in Delingpole's article to disagree with:

"If we play the same game, we are no better than they are. And face it: we just are."

In a paragraph saying we shouldn't demand the firing of the professor who tweeted that he wanted "White Genocide" for Christmas.

The left will not stop using the tactics of personal destruction until they learn that both sides can play that game, and that we can play it better than they can. Not only should we demand that he be fired, we should demand that all federal and state funding of Drexel University be pulled until he is. We should also demand that all future funding for universities be dependent on their establishing faculty political diversity programs. We have the political power, it's past time we started using it.

Shrinking advertising revenue as well. Big brand name recognition companies will persist, and are still not likely to support alternative/legitimate media. This leaves openings for up and coming businesses, who don't mind catering to niche markets with growth potential.

Hardly fake news.

The fake news that concerns folks are those stories that are 100% false (Pizzagate, Denzel backs Trump, FBI Agent involved in Hillary investigation found dead, Soros quote about funding black hate groups, etc) but which are spread as true for malicious reasons.

The VT Story was not this. People who say it is Fake News and try to equate it to things that are maliciously made up either don't understand what reporting is or don't care.

What a strange world we live in. Who ever thought that the Eloi were the real cannibals? And that all it would take to avoid being stuck underground like an animal was to stand up like a proud Morlock and tell them to f*ck off?

(Apologies to Mr. Wright. But I think Mr Wells depiction was reversed from the reality. Had any of us taken the machine to the future, I think we woild have found the Morlocks to be far more tolerant, practical, and thoughtful than the good Mr Wells portrayed them as, and if anything, it would only be there where we would find a sensitive somewhat ungainly young Morlock reading his fantasy books about the ancient Eath struggles of the feisty band of alt-righters using light beams to speak to one another in defiance of the chanting Eloi of those times)

Nonsense. The game, ultimately, is about funding. If we leave our enemies - the enemies not only of the right but, knowingly or not, of every member of our society - in charge of the honeypots, we will lose.

If we accept our losses but inflict none, we will lose.

God, righteousness, whatever you believe in, will not now and will never swoop in to save you in business, politics, or war.

If we don't win on the first two, we'll end up having to win on the third.

There is nothing new about the politics of personal destruction, or shall we say name calling. The only time there is a civil dialog is when there is censorship. It was one of the first things to develop after the country was established. President Washington endured a sometimes hostile press and Burr shot Hamilton in a dispute that involved name calling in a political campaign. Either because Thomas Jefferson was not inherently good at it or he didn't want to be directly associated with the nastiness; when he ran for president he hired a guy to write nasty stuff about his opponent.

How is Pizzagate fake?

you're trying to engage him Dialectically.

this is wrong, because it stipulates that he doesn't know he's lying and imputes to his character the quality of 'integrity'.

assumptions, neither of which is True.

therefore, a Dialectical response is entirely beside the point and a waste of your time and energy.

it's not that Dialectical analysis of Pizzagate does NOT have a place, but here, with him, is a waste.

for instance, he brings up a 'dead FBI agent' story. i don't even remember hearing about an FBI agent involved in the Hillary investigation winding up dead.

but what that is, IS A BAIT AND SWITCH for the much more commonly known ACTUAL NEWS FACT that Seth Rich, Hillary staffer, WAS shot to death less than three months before the election.

if he can sneak that talking point into the conversation, people who haven't been paying attention will conflate the *fake* FBI agent story with the *real* Hillary staffer story ( because the staffer was on his way to an FBI interview when he was murdered ) and will deprecate all stories in that category.

he is NOT DOING THIS ON ACCIDENT.

Uni-Party is very real. It's the rule of a natural aristocracy warned of by the likes of Richard Henry Lee and Mercy Otis Warren.

Politics is a symptom of social mood. It assorts with the Narrative.

250 years of rising social mood, capped by the most intense social mood mania in recorded history, yielded a Narrative so powerful it became an implacable religious cult, and thus yielded a political environment where opposition = blasphemy.

Of course this looked like One Party Rule. The West spent at least the past 50 years run by a THEOCRACY.

It was a false religion whose existence was simply a fashion, a fad (albeit one lasting many decades, multiple generations.)

Ours is the adventure of living when this long, long trend reverses. See it this way, and breathe in the historic significance of this moment and those that are certain to follow.

My favorite meme from the Russian hacking genre is the pic of two two dogs with the caption "welcome home, the Russians pooped in the hallway".

Thanks for the morning laughs Trad btw.

We will take the fight to the enemy, not cower in No Man’s Land

Shouldn't "No Man's Land" be Tranny/Little Girls Bathrooms?

Whether we are outnumbered or not doesn't matter. We're right, they're wrong...and we are willing to prove it.

If we don't stop paying for Latrina's 21 crack babies there wont be enough Asians and Whites to support 1st world civilization.

What is the "correct" explanation for the bizarre Wikileaks Podesta e-mails with regards to the references to children in hottubs as entertainment for old men at a party?

(((Loots))) of normal STR8 guys find the dancing of 8yo girls more interesting than 8teen year old women with breasts.

state-controlled propaganda outlets would come to regret the "fake news" meme

Fake News From Five Jews, just rolls off the tongue.

we welcome, globalist cannon fodder, TRAD765. Do you mean TAD Reboot765?

for instance, he brings up a 'dead FBI agent' story

I didn't think you had. :) I was merely pointing out Vox's tactics in action.

> It was reported in every media Oyler Whanga a gunman went into the restaurant.

Every media? I don't think so. :)

And it hadn't even been mentioned in this thread. You're the one who had to proactively bring it up in an effort to discredit it. Why are you so sensitive about pedophilia, hmm? Enquiring minds want to know.

> Good news. I'm not lying. Furthermore, you know I'm not.

Yes you are, and we know you are.

Blogger VD January 02, 2017 1:40 PM

I have no need to prove that you are lying. This is not a court of law. I observe that you have lied here, repeatedly, and now you are banned.

I also note that you commented despite being told not to do so. This demonstration of low character tends to support my observation that you are a liar.

Run along now. It's a big Internet. Go pester some other site.

"Trad equated 'grid' with 'power grid' and thought we wouldn't notice. As liars go, he's stupid."
"Grid"...in the story...is a reference to the Vermont (and through it the NE) power grid.

Lying is the defining characteristic of the leftist; they lie when even the truth would do. It's a symptom of living in a imaginary world of feels, their leaders propaganda and general made-up BS required to support their world view of equality.

@19 Wanderer

How is Pizzagate fake? What is the "correct" explanation for the bizarre Wikileaks Podesta e-mails with regards to the references to children in hottubs as entertainment for old men at a party?
---

They try and make #PizzaGate fake by insinuating that Hitlery herself was running a pedo ring in the basement of comet pizza. That was never what pizza gate was about.

Then they paid some actor to go in and shoot the floor - ooo scary.

#PizzaGate has now blossomed into #PedoGate as all kinds of these rings are being brought up.

The squishy middle argument sounds a bit like one of the debates which runs around in the PSYOPS community.

The general consensus is to message the "neutrals" and attempt to move them into "our" camp, or at least stop them from moving into the "enemy" camp. Most of the time, this sort of messaging is highly reactive, since the strategy it supports is to try and discredit or neutralize the enemy's propaganda.

One counter argument isn't to message the neutrals at all, but to focus the resources on the people who are already disposed to support "us". The theory is they will be energized, find even more reasons to support "us" and by their very activities draw their friends and acquaintances in the "neutral" camp towards them (and by extension, us).

Given there are limited resources all around and some are already committed to directly targeting the enemy and hostile population, the argument for leveraging your already existing influence on a segment of the population gives more bang for the buck than exerting the same resources on the neutral [population and (possibly) moving only a few people.

I am not aware of any studies or operational reports describing rigorous testing of this hypothesis, but it is an interesting data point, and intuitively seems correct.

Blogger Benjamin Kraft January 02, 2017 9:21 PM

@74. Your argument overlaps with the squishy middle.

How do we know what people are predisposed to support us if we don't know them well to begin with? We don't, and thus part of the "squishy middle" is composed of them, part is composed of "true neutrals" and part is composed of people predisposed towards the enemy.

Thus "messaging the neutrals" is also "focusing the resources", especially if you consider that most of the neutrals are probably on our side but have not yet awakened to the reality of the battle.

On top of that, why the heck would you leverage your power solely to influence those who are already on your side? To boost morale? Important, but if all (or even most) of your power is required just to keep morale up, you're fighting a losing battle already, your fusion reactor is energy-negative, and you're already dead but don't know it yet.

It really isn't a very interesting hypothesis at all. It's actually quite similar to one of the most common moderate/seditionist scare tactics in the book, "O noes we need to focus on ourselves more, eat the lotus and stare intently into our souls before we will be strong enough to face the enemy."

There's a time to stop wasting effort on lost-cause neutrals, but we aren't even close yet. I feel like you think no one is doing this analysis, yet what you don't realize is that this analysis was considered so incredibly basic as to have been an intuitive or instinctive calculation in most of our minds before we even started talking.
