Sovereignty in the UK

Great Britain has invoked Article 50 and is officially leaving the European Union:
Brexit begins! Historic moment for the UK as Article 50 letter is delivered to the EU with Theresa May hailing a 'great turning point' for country as it looks to forge a 'bright new future' outside the Brussels club. The Prime Minister signed the historic letter triggering EU divorce last night. Brexit will be irreversible once handed to EU chief Donald Tusk in Brussels today
Congratulations to the British for reclaiming their nation. This is a historic moment, every bit as historic as the Revolutionary War and the defeats of Napoleon and Hitler, despite not a shot being fired.

The EU is a stealth empire that has conquered with lies and banks in the place of infantry and tanks. It is to the great credit of the British people that they have had the courage to resist their subjugation and reclaim their nation and the Rights of Englishmen.

The historic British Left is all up in Scotland. If Scotland leaves the Union, suddenly British Isles are going to be hard-Right and hyper Nationalistic.

They might just march most of London out of the country.

Same thing would happen if they split California, which is getting a lot of support these days. The south half is liberal while the north half is conservative and splitting would greatly diminish that large block of delegates California bludgeons the country with every four years and add two more conservative Senators to the U.S. Senate.

Anonymous james@wpc March 29, 2017 10:03 AM

This is certainly worthy of celebration but there is something wrong with this whole picture.

The Conservatives called for the Brexit vote when they didn't have to and there was apparently nothing to gain for them.
Then they allowed the independence vote to win after they had clearly rigged the Scotish independence to fail.
Next they invoke Article 50 when they could go on delaying it.
And all the while they are mothballing the British military forces so that they will have to rely on some sort of Euro military force.

Something is missing from this picture.

Is Northern Cali really that conservative? Oregon and Washington are reliably blue.

I think Northern Cali would still be blue. Look at the map here:
http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/california-president-clinton-trump

It depends on where you draw the line. If you include Sonoma/Napa/Yolo counties you are definitely blue. Problem is those very red counties in northeast of the state are sparsely populated. It only seems possible to carve a red state out of Cali by excluding all metro areas. Sacramento County is also very populous and very blue.

Indeed. Bigger picture there is a lot of shady activity going on. Much of the black and brown invasion into Europe is clearly being organized and funded. The logistics of moving these large numbers of people is not trivial. Running a naval operation to transport invaders from North Africa to Europe is nontrivial. NGO’s are funding much of this which means that governments are directly involved in the invasion of their native citizens.

@35 It's leans pretty right. Think of it this way, most of that area is made up of farmers, much like most of Oregon.

There is an area in Oregon - called the Willamette Valley - that stretches from Portland to Eugene; that area is all liberal. Everything else? Pretty conservative. There are more guns in OR than people, the citizens always vote against any new tax that comes their way, and while the crazies in the WV have the greatest population, they don't own the state.

You sometimes read the statement that a country that wants access to the EU market must 'pay its way' by being part of a political union; I've never seen a reason given for that assertion. I wouldn't put it past the EU to put up trade walls against Britain - not because they think it would be good for the EU Citizens, but to get back at Britain and to make an example of it. (How much that would hurt the British I don't know; they'll be free to handle their own trade policy towards the rest of the world.)

Looks like Oregon is blue because of Portlandia, Corvallis (O State) and Eugene (U of O). The county where Salem is actually voted for Trump.

In Washington, only the Puget Sound area voted for thecunt. The whole rest of the state went Trump.

From a glance at most of the western U.S., in fact, looks like the only counties that voted for thecunt were those with big cities, universities, resort areas (including a large chunk of Colorado), and Indian reservations. Butte Montana also voted Democrat, but shifted hard to the right over historical patterns.

As soon as they announce Calexit, a quick surgical strike to water and power supplies going to SoCal will help wrap things up. Socal will have no ability to force Colorado or anyone else to supply them with water or power. SoCal goes full madmax within 2 weeks if water and power are interrupted.

> Cities and university towns are the problem. Figure out a way to turn those red and you get more red states.

You can't turn them red, but you can cut off the supply of blue, which is your tax dollars. Stop funding the cities and universities with state and federal funds.

can anyone counter the facts in this article?

@62 Eric Castle
The United States Constitution says that no new state can be created from an existing state, without the approval of the state legislature.

I am not at all optimistic that the California legislature would agree to separate any part of their state for a new state, so this is pure fantasy.

That being said, we saw Mr. Abraham Lincoln get very creative during his administration. West Virginia is clearly unconstitutional, since the Virginia legislature never gave any such consent.

My own favorite Lincoln device was to completely IGNORE the historic state government in Missouri in favor of recognizing a NEW state government formed by pro-Union faction. The historic state government of Missouri was forced into exile in Texas at the point of Federal bayonets, and remained there until it was dissolved at the end of the civil war. Perhaps President Trump could do the same thing.....declare the historic California state government to be in rebellion against the United States and recognize instead, the NEW state government at Jefferson. State-declared sanctuary and nullification of Federal law would be considered to be open rebellion of Federal authority. Trump would be as justified as Lincoln in that case.

Or perhaps, President Trump could use another precedent established by Lincoln....throw the entire California state legislature into Federal prison. Lincoln did that in the case of Maryland, and quite a bit of selective arrest, while suspending the right of Habeas Corpus.

Most of our politicians are Remainers who never expected the referendum result. Trust them not.

I made the mistake of marrying an Englishwoman, so I know all non-Scot Brits are NOT hard Rightists.

I will be deeply disappointed if Scotland secedes from the UK. Hadrian's Wall will likely need to be rebuilt.

@35 "Is Northern Cali really that conservative? Oregon and Washington are reliably blue."

ORE and WA are very conservative on the east side of the mountains; also, alas, sparsely populated. All the damned Cali's that move up to the 'wet' side of WA (and are much and rightly HATED by Washingtonians) have made a Cali "paradise" out of what WAS a pretty decent mix.

I know a LOT of Washingtonians who would agree: THEY HAVE TO GO BACK!! (Heck I am one who wishes them gone from that lovely state, even though I'm now an honorary southerner!)

Agreed. Ceding ground isn't a real long term solution with the left.

There are robo-masons that can build that thing up for one tenth the cost of wet-ware masons now.

So? CalExit means a state secedes from the US, with or without approval of the Congress. Not only does the game change, the rules become fluid, and all that "approval of the state legislature" could become moot.

If so then the real question becomes "how badly does Sacramento want to hold on to Jefferson"? It could be a bit expensive if the Jeffersonians decided to say "nope". Jefferson could be a sideshow if the central valley and Sierra counties decide not to participate in the CalExit but to remain part of the US, far Western Nevada. Then there's SoCal and San Francisco.

Much popcorn would be required.

If Scotland want independence, that' fine. But why leave the UK, just to chain yourself back to the EU again?

"I thought he was just a crazy homeless guy living in her neighborhood and that the globalists just used the death to promote anti-Brexit sentiment."

Most unfortunate that this terrible tragedy, which was clearly the result of mental illness, should be so cynically exploited, for such shallow political motives, in what is obviously an attempt to demonize the entire indigenous British population for one man's alleged actions. Clearly, we must all redouble our efforts to fight the twin scourges of anti-White hatred and toxic Gentilephobia in the wake of this sad event.

'Lies and banks in the place of infantry and tanks'

This is especially true for Greece. Once again under the German yoke, this time financially.

The biggest lie told about the EU is that it is financially beneficial. France unemployment 10%, Youth unemployment 23.6%. Italy 11.9% Jobless, 37.9% youth, (debt/GDP 132.7%). Portugal 10.5% and 25.7%. Spain 18.63% and 42.2%. Greece 23.1% and 45.7% (176.9% debt/GDP). These are not fringe countries, or former soviet republics destroyed by decades of communism. These are the main countries of the Eurozone. This is the 'Eden like paradise' the EU SJW lefties are telling us that we Brits are leaving behind.

Only one country benefits from the EU, and that is Germany, with unemployment 3.8%, youth 6.5%. Many people across the EU, especially young people, are being left without a future. They are being sacrificed for a political and ideological construct that is failing.

Same thing here. I am a Swedish citizen here in London. Brexit is useless and won't achieve anything. The UK's massive muslim population didn't even enter from the EU. Leaving won't help. Even Farage has said that he wants more muslim migrants from South Asia after Brexit.

Anonymous glosoli March 30, 2017 2:55 PM

As with the Trumpslide, Brexit will not happen unless it is part of the (((plan))). England has been under their control since the so-called Glorious Revolution, probably even before that.
It won't stop until the return of our Lord.
So, little point getting excited about *politics* is there?

Blogger Jonathan Wales March 30, 2017 3:38 PM

122 glosoli. Brexit is just the beginning. It will take us out of the EU free movement area. It will also get us out of the EU refugee and asylum quotas. We can then start a proper visa system to select who we want to let in. No more 30 year old Syrians pretending to be 13.

@117 A Deplorable .....
As I see it, the main motivation of Calexit is pretty obvious. The illegal aliens in California and their white Liberal Democrat owners are worried that President Trump may actually enforce US immigration laws. Unlike Obama, he may actually keep his Oath of Office.

The Lincoln administration was actually faced with exactly the situation you describe in several situations, so there are lawful and valid responses to this issue. Basically, the Lincoln administration maintained that NONE of the states had the ability to secede from the Union (on their own volition) and they all remained part of the USA. After Lincoln was assassinated, it became difficult for the Radical Republicans to reverse this policy....but they did, requiring all of the states that "never seceded" to reapply for statehood in the Federal Union, while at the same time requiring them to ratify the 13th and 14th amendments as the price of their re-admission to the Union. So states had to ratify two amendments to the Constitution before they could be re-admitted as states (and their new state constitutions had to be approved by Congress). Something is obviously not connecting. The problem was that the states that never joined the Confederacy were not all willing to ratify the two amendments and so they needed the former Confederate states to ratify the amendments in order for them to reach the required ratification.

Yes, there were areas that tried to secede from the Confederacy, the State of Jones probably being the best known. I expect they were acting on the Missouri and West Virginia examples to become the new state government recognized by the president and replace the historic state government, because it was in rebellion against Federal authority.

Yes, popcorn would be nice....and plenty of cold drink to wash it down.
